Oakland Transportation

Routes 287, 208, 4, and 17 along with the Garden State Parkway and New York Thruway major highways in or near Oakland.

Oakland does not have its own train station; however, there are neighboring towns that do. Click here to view where train stations are located.

Newark, LaGuardia, and JFK Airports are all within a 45-minute drive and offer international and domestic destinations.

The center of town has a shopping area and easy access to Routes 208 & 287. Access to Route 287, Route 17, Route 202, and the NY Thruway as well as bus routes allow convenient commutation to New York City.

Oakland Culture

Facilities include large recreation area located behind the Municipal Plaza offering several playgrounds, soccer fields, baseball fields, basketball courts, public tennis courts. Private swimming area at Crystal Lake. Public fishing in stocked Ramapo River. Boating, ice skating, nature trails, etc. Summer rec program for children, several organized sports programs for children & adults.
Oakland residents are justifiably proud of their community which provides excellent athletic and social programs for both adults and children, as they enjoy some of the finest and most extensive facilities in the area. There are nine tennis courts, ten baseball fields, a football field, plus several soccer fields. There is a Senior Center in town which provides those 55 and older with services and activities promoting well-being and community involvement.

Oakland Education

Superior education benefits are afforded by 3 elementary schools, a middle school, and Indian Hills Regional High School. Several pre-schools as well as parochial schools are located in town.

Oakland Nature

The Ramapo Mountains with its rolling terrain set the scene for the town of Oakland. Route 202 (AKA Ramapo Valley Road), which is one of the country's first trading routes used by Native Americans, runs along the Ramapo River, where historic homes and horse farms dot the roadside.
